The HBO series that made Saxon Ratliff a figure worth arguing about aired in early 2025. By the time the Emmy nominations came out a few months later, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s name was not among them. The show scored twenty-three nominations. Fans were furious. Schwarzenegger himself called Jason Isaacs — who received a nod in his category — to offer congratulations.

Something about that gesture, gracious and a little pointed, told you everything the performance already had: a man who understood exactly what the game was, and had decided to play it with full commitment anyway.

Schwarzenegger was born in Santa Monica in September 1993, the second of four children belonging to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver — a family that occupies a peculiar American intersection of action-movie mythology and Kennedy political dynasty. Growing up, the options available to him for constructing a public identity were structurally constrained by comparison. He attended Brentwood School in Los Angeles, where he began taking private acting lessons alongside his studies, then went to USC’s Marshall School of Business, graduating in 2016 with a minor in cinematic arts. The plan was not to wait for a role in a Terminator sequel. The plan was to build something.

His early screen work followed a recognizable trajectory: a small part in The Benchwarmers at twelve, a supporting turn in Stuck in Love in 2012, a teen horror-comedy in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse in 2015. His first genuine lead came with Midnight Sun in 2018, a romantic drama opposite Bella Thorne, the kind of film that demonstrates an actor’s instincts without necessarily establishing their ceiling.

The more revealing moments came later, and on television. His role as Todd Peterson in The Staircase in 2022, the HBO true-crime miniseries about the Michael Peterson case, placed him alongside Colin Firth and Toni Collette in material that required specificity rather than star power. Gen V in 2023 — Amazon Prime Video‘s ferociously violent Boys spin-off — gave him Luke Riordan, also known as Golden Boy, a character whose surface confidence slowly dismantles into something considerably darker. The role demanded physical discipline and emotional range his earlier parts had not.

Then came Tim Tebow.

Ryan Murphy‘s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, which aired on FX in 2024, cast him as the Florida Gators quarterback — a humanizing presence orbiting the tragedy at the story’s center. The performance was brief and precisely calibrated. It read as a demonstration of what would follow.

Whatever has been said about nepotism — and Schwarzenegger addressed it directly, calling such insinuations “frustrating” in a 2025 interview — The White Lotus did not cast him as Saxon Ratliff because of his father. Mike White doesn’t work that way, and the character doesn’t reward the impulse to coast. Saxon, the eldest of the Ratliff siblings, arrives at the Ko Samui resort carrying an entitlement he doesn’t fully understand and a financial crisis he’s working to conceal. He is not the villain of Season 3 and not its victim. He is the kind of person most unsettling when he’s trying to be good. Schwarzenegger played that particular ambivalence with a precision that made the Emmy omission feel, to many viewers, like a clerical error from which there is no appeal.

He has spoken about how profoundly the role affected his understanding of what performance at this level actually demands.

In September 2025, Schwarzenegger married model Abby Champion at Gozzer Ranch near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a decade together. They had announced their engagement at Christmas 2023. He also co-founded MOSH, a brain nutrition brand developed with his mother Maria Shriver and launched on World Alzheimer’s Day — a project whose personal dimension the Kennedy family would immediately recognize.

What comes next is already filmed. Love of Your Life and Bunker are in post-production. Beach Read, a 20th Century Studios adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestselling novel directed by Yulin Kuang, pairs him with Phoebe Dynevor — Schwarzenegger plays Gus Everett, a literary novelist with writer’s block opposite Dynevor’s romance writer who no longer believes in love. It opens in May 2027. The casting announcement, notably, made no reference to his surname’s prior occupants.
